FAQs

Is Mantis going to augment Terraform and Helm charts, or replace them?

Mantis is designed to replace both Terraform and Helm charts. The goal of Mantis is to unify infrastructure as code, eliminating the need for separate tools like Terraform and Helm. With Mantis, you'll have a single framework capable of handling everything from configuration to deployment without relying on multiple IaC tools.

How does Mantis work with Terraform providers? Is it compatible?

Yes, Mantis is compatible with Terraform providers. Mantis is built on top of the OpenTofu engine, which allows it to work seamlessly with OpenTofu-compatible Terraform providers.

What versions of Terraform is Mantis compatible with?

Mantis maintains backward compatibility similar to OpenTofu, supporting Terraform versions up to 1.5 and 1.6. Future updates will aim to stay aligned with OpenTofu’s development, but beyond version 1.6, there may be some divergence as Mantis evolves. We'll continue to update Mantis to ensure compatibility where possible.

What are some immediate use cases where Mantis could be useful?

Packaging and Shipping Cloud Apps: Mantis simplifies packaging and consistent deployment of Kubernetes-based applications across various cloud environments. It streamlines installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting in one framework.

Building Internal Developer Platforms: Ideal for managing Kubernetes-based microservices, Mantis centralizes configurations, facilitates OCI registry publishing, and efficient consumption, streamlining internal developer platform maintenance.

Creating and Rolling Out Blueprints: Mantis accelerates deployment of machine learning services and microservices while maintaining security. Create reusable blueprints for faster, more secure organization-wide deployments.
